A kraft paper coffee pouch with a degassing valve and a black circle print, beside a torn piece showing its silver foil liner.
    Best for
Whole-bean and ground coffee, tea, and anything that goes stale in air. The long-shelf-life pick.
    Structure
Kraft paper outer, PET, aluminium foil barrier, PE sealant. Stand-up pouch laminate.
    Print methods
Flexo on the kraft face · Digital on the kraft face (1–2 spot inks read best)
    Finishes
Matte by nature · Spot gloss varnish · Hot foil stamping, on the flat web before the pouch is formed
    After use
A mixed laminate of paper, plastic and foil. Not recyclable in most household streams.

    How it's built

    Outside to inside

Exploded view of a coffee pouch laminate: kraft paper, clear PET, aluminium foil and a polyethylene sealant.
    1. 1Kraft paper (print face)
    2. 2PET film
    3. 3Aluminium foil
    4. 4Polyethylene sealant

    Look and feel

Matte brown paper with visible fibre. It doesn't shine. Look at the seals and you'll see a thin silver line from the foil inside.

    Printing on it

Digital or flexo on the kraft. Kraft pulls every colour warmer and darker, so one or two solid inks read best, and light colours need a white underneath. Spot gloss varnish works. Hot foil is a small, one-colour mark stamped on the flat web before the bag is formed, kept clear of the zipper, valve and gussets. No letterpress, no deboss: a soft laminate has nothing for a plate to press into.

    Barrier and shelf life

The highest of the pouches. The foil core keeps out light, oxygen and moisture.

    Run sizes

Digitally printed pouches start around 500 per design. Plate-printed (rotogravure) pouches make sense from about 10,000 per design. Below 500, a stock bag with a printed or foil label is the cleaner route, and the label is where foil, letterpress and deboss actually work.

    After use

A mixed laminate of paper, plastic and foil. Not recyclable in most household streams.
