How It Works

Your artwork is printed in full-color CMYK on white paper stock — the black areas are printed ink, not the paper color. This means the card surface is rich, saturated black, but the edges of the card will show a thin white line where the paper is visible.

Silk Laminate + Flat Spot UV: The silk lamination gives the black surface a smooth satin sheen. Flat spot UV is a thin, clear glossy coating applied to specific areas of your design. The contrast is subtle — visible when light catches the surface at an angle.

Soft Touch + Raised Spot UV: The soft touch lamination gives the black surface a velvet matte texture that absorbs light. Raised spot UV adds dimensional, glossy clear coating on top — your design elements are physically raised above the surface. The contrast is both visual (matte vs glossy) and tactile (flat vs raised). This creates the "black on black" effect.

The UV areas should be vector artwork on a separate layer. We'll send a proof for approval before production.

About Black + Spot UV Cards

The black-on-black spot UV effect is one of the most striking things you can do with a business card. The card looks completely black — monochrome, minimal, restrained. Then it catches light and your logo appears as a glossy reflection on the matte surface. It's a reveal, not a display.

Raised spot UV on soft touch is the premium version of this effect. The soft touch laminate creates a velvety black surface that genuinely feels different in the hand — it absorbs light instead of reflecting it. The raised UV sits on top as a glossy, dimensional layer you can trace with your finger. The contrast between the two textures — velvet matte and smooth gloss — is what makes this combination special.

Flat spot UV on silk is more subtle. The silk surface has its own slight sheen, so the UV contrast is gentler — visible when light catches the surface at an angle. It's a good choice when you want the effect without the texture.
