The story
Gmund Colors Transparent is a clean white vellum, number 50 in the Gmund Colors system, made in 100 and 200 g/m². It is translucent, crisp and quietly luxurious, the classic choice for an overlay that softens what sits beneath it. Blind embossing and folding turn it milky white, which can be lovely when planned. It is fussy about humidity and heat, so we keep it acclimatised and test foil before a full run. Use it for wedding overlays, liners and wraps around a heavier card.
FSC certified (FSC C006462); Acid free, pH neutral
Where it shines
- Invitation overlays and wraps
- Envelopes and liners
- Cards
- Folders
- Packaging windows
How we print it
- Offset (oxidative or UV inks)
- Letterpress
- Screen printing
- Blind embossing (gives a milky effect)
- Hot foil
- Paper etching
- Die cutting
Worth knowing
- Very sensitive to climate: store and print at about 20 °C and 50% RH, acclimatise 24 h in its wrap
- Avoid high humidity, heavy damping and IR drying; damping water pH about 6.0
- Folds must run with the grain; double crease 200 g/m² to avoid cracking
- Hard to cut: slightly blunted carbide blade, max 5 cm stack
- 100 g/m² laser/inkjet only after testing; ink dries slowly and heat can distort
- Embossing and folding turn the paper milky white at the edges
Feel it first
A screen cannot tell you how a sheet feels. Compare the weight, surface and colour in hand.
