Pantone® 806 Coated: Pantone 806 op coated karton
Transparant: dekt geen donker papier. Drukkers schrijven het PMS 806 C; huisstijlrichtlijnen schrijven het meestal Pantone® 806 Coated. Dezelfde inkt, dezelfde plaat: de letter is het papier waarop hij landt. Op uncoated papier in dezelfde kleur is PMS 806 U, en het ziet er niet hetzelfde uit.

Gecoat of ongecoat, eerlijk bekeken
Bekijk 806 C en 806 U naast elkaarThe same ink is not the same colour on the two stocks. On coated sheets the ink sits on a sealed surface: denser, brighter, sharper edges. On uncoated the fibres absorb it: softer, duller, slightly lighter, and warm colours lose the most punch. Some colours change character outright: brights go chalky, deep navies go grey-blue.

Gedrag in productie
- Fluorescent pink: the loudest ink we run and the most-requested neon by a distance.
- Het verbleekt. In direct zonlicht wordt het binnen enkele maanden zichtbaar doffer. In een la gaat het jaren mee. Kies nooit een fluorescerende kleur voor iets dat achter een raam hangt.
- Drukt het best als volle kleur. Tinten van een fluorescerende kleur verliezen de fluorescentie en ogen alleen bleek.
Op donker papier
Offset and letterpress inks are translucent. On a dark or coloured stock a light ink will not cover: it sinks into the sheet and reads tone-on-tone. For light colour on dark paper the answer is foil stamping or an opaque screen pass, never a straight PMS hit.

Een CMYK-opbouw van een steunkleur is een benadering, niet de kleur zelf. Het maakt het meeste uit bij grote egale vlakken, bij merkkritische elementen en bij felle kleuren en diepe blauwtinten die proceskleur simpelweg niet haalt. Het maakt het minste uit bij kleine tekst en in foto's.

- What does Pantone 806 look like on uncoated paper?
- Zachter, doffer en iets lichter dan het gecoate staal. Ongecoate vezels nemen de inkt op in plaats van die op een gesloten oppervlak te laten liggen, waardoor de verzadiging overal afneemt. Het ongecoate staal hier is afgeleid van de gecoate benadering: bestel de stalenset, of vraag ons de inkten na je bestelling af te stemmen.
- Can you print Pantone 806 on dark or coloured stock?
- Not as a standard ink hit. Pantone 806 is translucent, so on dark stock the paper colour comes through and the result is tone-on-tone. For this colour on dark paper we foil stamp or run an opaque screen instead.
- Can Pantone 806 be matched in CMYK?
- Geen procesopbouw komt eraan. Dit kan alleen als steunkleur, punt.
- Will Pantone 806 fade?
- Fluorescents fade. UV exposure kills them in months in a window, years in a drawer. They also cannot be matched in CMYK: there is no process build that reaches them, so a neon is a spot ink or it is nothing.

Pantone 806 on Gmund Urban Brasilia Dust. Ink is translucent: on a brasilia dust, three architectural textures in four shared colours (powder, grey, dust, black) sheet the printed colour shifts toward the paper. Sign off against a printed sample, not the chip.
