    Pantone® Reflex Blue Coated: Pantone Reflex Blue op coated karton

    Transparant: dekt geen donker papier. Drukkers schrijven het PMS Reflex Blue C; huisstijlrichtlijnen schrijven het meestal Pantone® Reflex Blue Coated. Dezelfde inkt, dezelfde plaat: de letter is het papier waarop hij landt. Op uncoated papier in dezelfde kleur is PMS Reflex Blue U, en het ziet er niet hetzelfde uit.

    Gecoat of ongecoat, eerlijk bekeken

    The same ink is not the same colour on the two stocks. On coated sheets the ink sits on a sealed surface: denser, brighter, sharper edges. On uncoated the fibres absorb it: softer, duller, slightly lighter, and warm colours lose the most punch. Some colours change character outright: brights go chalky, deep navies go grey-blue.

    Gedrag in productie

    • The most famous: and most troublesome: blue in the book. Reflex Blue dries slowly and is notorious for setting off onto the back of the next sheet, so heavy solids need extra drying time in the run.
    • Onder sommige lichtbronnen verschuift het ook naar violet. Leeft het merk zowel in daglicht als onder warm binnenlicht, bekijk het dan in beide voordat je goedkeurt.

    Op donker papier

    Offset and letterpress inks are translucent. On a dark or coloured stock a light ink will not cover: it sinks into the sheet and reads tone-on-tone. For light colour on dark paper the answer is foil stamping or an opaque screen pass, never a straight PMS hit.

    Het papier telt net zo zwaar als de inkt

    Een CMYK-opbouw van een steunkleur is een benadering, niet de kleur zelf. Het maakt het meeste uit bij grote egale vlakken, bij merkkritische elementen en bij felle kleuren en diepe blauwtinten die proceskleur simpelweg niet haalt. Het maakt het minste uit bij kleine tekst en in foto's.

    What does Pantone Reflex Blue look like on uncoated paper?
    Zachter, doffer en iets lichter dan het gecoate staal. Ongecoate vezels nemen de inkt op in plaats van die op een gesloten oppervlak te laten liggen, waardoor de verzadiging overal afneemt. Het ongecoate staal hier is afgeleid van de gecoate benadering: bestel de stalenset, of vraag ons de inkten na je bestelling af te stemmen.
    Can you print Pantone Reflex Blue on dark or coloured stock?
    Not as a standard ink hit. Pantone Reflex Blue is translucent, so on dark stock the paper colour comes through and the result is tone-on-tone. For this colour on dark paper we foil stamp or run an opaque screen instead.
    Can Pantone Reflex Blue be matched in CMYK?
    Met proceskleuren haal je dit niet. Elk groot vlak in Reflex Blue moet een steunkleur zijn.

    Pantone Reflex Blue on Sirio Illusion Verdeoro. Ink is translucent: on a verdeoro, pulp-dyed base with an iridescent, embossed finish on one side; colour flips between two tones with viewing angle (names pair the two tones, e.g. rosa+malva) sheet the printed colour shifts toward the paper. Sign off against a printed sample, not the chip.
