Farbschnitt vs. Folienschnitt

Was ist Kantenveredelung?

Edge finishing adds color to the narrow sides of a business card — the thin strip of paper you see when looking at a card from the side. On a standard 16pt card, this edge is barely visible. On a 32pt or 48pt card, it becomes a real design surface — a flash of color that's visible in a stack and eye-catching when the card is handed over.

Es gibt zwei Hauptverfahren: Bemalen (flüssige Farbe oder Tinte wird aufgetragen) und Folie (Metallfolie wird auf die Kante gebracht). Beide liefern schöne Ergebnisse, haben aber unterschiedliche Eigenschaften.

Farbschnitt

Beim Farbschnitt wird deckende Farbe auf alle vier Kanten der Karte aufgetragen. Das geschieht nach Druck, Schnitt und Stapeln: Der gesamte Kartenstapel wird auf einmal bemalt, für eine gleichmäßige Deckung.

Standard-Farbschnitte gibt es in sechs Farben: Rot, Schwarz, Blau, Gold, Rosa und Orange. Das Gold ist eine warme, matte Farbe, kein Spiegel. Bei individuellen Karten mischen wir den Farbschnitt in jedem Pantone-Ton. Auf schwarzem oder dunklem Papier veredeln wir die Kante mit Folie statt mit Farbe.

Kantenfolie

Edge foil applies metallic Folie to the card edges instead of paint. The result is more reflective and mirror-like than painted edges — closer to jewelry than stationery. Edge foil is typically available in gold, silver, rose gold, and copper.

Kantenfolie braucht auf dickerem Papier eine geschlossene Kante: 32pt ist praktikabel, 48pt ist besser, da die Folie mit Hitze und Druck aufgebracht wird. Sie eignet sich für eckige und abgerundete Ecken.

Anforderungen an die Stärke

Edge paint has no thickness minimum: any card can be painted, and thickness only changes how bold the line looks. 16pt reads as a hairline, 32pt as a clear line and 48pt as a band. Edge foil is different: 32pt practical, 48pt preferred.
