Metallico: lucentezza, non specchio. Gli stampatori lo scrivono PMS 877 C; di solito le linee guida del brand lo scrivono Pantone® 877 Coated. Stesso inchiostro, stessa lastra: a fare la lettera è la carta su cui si posa. Su uncoated carta dello stesso colore è PMS 877 U, e non ha lo stesso aspetto.

Patinata o naturale, con onestà
The same ink is not the same colour on the two stocks. On coated sheets the ink sits on a sealed surface: denser, brighter, sharper edges. On uncoated the fibres absorb it: softer, duller, slightly lighter, and warm colours lose the most punch. Some colours change character outright: brights go chalky, deep navies go grey-blue.

Come si comporta in produzione
- Metallic silver: aluminium flake. The same rules as 871: a sheen on coated, and a noticeably flatter grey on uncoated.
- Accanto a una vera lamina argento appare grigio. Se i due compaiono sullo stesso pezzo, l'inchiostro ne esce sconfitto.
Su carta scura
Offset and letterpress inks are translucent. On a dark or coloured stock a light ink will not cover: it sinks into the sheet and reads tone-on-tone. For light colour on dark paper the answer is foil stamping or an opaque screen pass, never a straight PMS hit.

Metallic PMS is a printed approximation of metal: aluminium or bronze flake suspended in ink. It has a sheen, not a mirror. Foil is actual metal transferred under heat and pressure: reflective, sharp, and unmistakably different in the hand. If the brand asset is 'gold', foil gives a reflective highlight while metallic ink gives a satin sheen.

- What does Pantone 877 look like on uncoated paper?
- Più morbido, più opaco e un po' più chiaro del campione patinato. Le fibre non patinate assorbono l'inchiostro invece di lasciarlo su una superficie sigillata, quindi la saturazione cala in generale.
