Theresa Johnson’s two-sided card uses blue holographic or iridescent foil on black uncoated stock, with the monogram on the reverse.

Business-cards for Theresa Johnson with blue iridescent and two-sided foil stamping and black uncoated stock.

    The idea

Theresa Johnson is a graphic designer. For a designer, the business card is also a sample of the work, so it gets judged on type, colour and finish before anyone reads the phone number.

    Two rules

    1. 01Blue foil for the mark and type. Blue holographic or iridescent foil for the monogram and contact details on black uncoated stock.
    2. 02A monogram-only reverse. The monogram alone on the reverse, in the same blue iridescent foil.

    Why it works

The blue foil catches light against the black sheet; the monogram-only reverse gives the mark room to stand alone.

    Start from these materials

Same paper, foil and finish, locked in — nothing of Theresa Johnson's artwork comes with it.

    Questions

Does iridescent foil read on dark paper?
Yes. The foil sits above black uncoated stock and changes appearance as light moves across the card.
Is the blue a printed ink?
No. The blue mark and type are foil stamped, not printed in blue ink.
    Is the reverse printed?
Yes. The reverse carries the monogram in foil.
