MOO vs Vistaprint vs Print Peppermint

An honest comparison on price, paper, finishes, proofs and turnaround, with sources. Prices checked 1 October 2026.

By Austin Terrill, founder, Print Peppermint · Updated · Prices checked 1 October 2026

MOO vs Vistaprint, in one line: Vistaprint is cheaper and faster for plain cards: 19,99 US$ for 250, front only. MOO costs more (45 US$ for 100) for better paper and a polished design tool. Neither stamps foil with a die or presses your own artwork in letterpress. For that you need a specialty studio like ours, from 310 US$ for 250 (hot foil on 32pt cotton).

Three business cards compared by build: a thin 14pt coated card, an 18pt soft-touch card, and a 32pt cotton card with gold hot foil and a painted edge
    Three builds, not three brands.

MOO vs Vistaprint on price: which is cheaper?

Vistaprint is cheaper, by a lot, at the bottom of the market. 250 standard cards are 19,99 US$, which works out to eight cents a card. The catch is in the fine print: that price is the front side only, on 14pt stock.

MOO doesn't sell 250 or 500 packs of its Original card. 200 are 78 US$ and 400 are 135 US$, and the Luxe 32pt card is 149 US$ for 200. You pay for better paper and a better editor.

We're not in that race, and I won't pretend we are. Our cheapest Standard card is 52 US$ for 100. Where we get interesting on price is at the top: hot foil pressed with a real die on 32pt cotton is from 310 US$ for 250. The closest like-for-like we found from a big online printer, Jukebox's foil-stamped card, is 479 US$ for 250, on 20pt.

If the card's only job is to carry a phone number, buy the cheap one. I mean that.

Which has better paper, MOO or Vistaprint?

MOO wins this round against Vistaprint. Its Original is 16pt with both sides included, and its Luxe is a 32pt, four-layer Mohawk Superfine card with a coloured seam in one of eight colours. Vistaprint's standard is 14pt, with thicker and textured stocks as upgrades.

Here's what neither will tell you on the product page: thickness and finish don't always mix.

    • MOO's own support says Luxe is "not compatible with glossy or special finishes like foil or spot gloss."
    • Vistaprint says its Ultra Thick is "unable to add foil accents" and its soft touch can't take special finishes.

We print 16pt to 48pt, on cotton, kraft and dyed-through colour stocks, plus wood, metal and plastic. And thickness is where finishes start: a 32pt or 48pt cotton card can carry foil and letterpress side by side, plus a painted edge.

Do MOO or Vistaprint do real foil and letterpress?

This is the biggest difference, and it's about how the finish is made, not what it's called.

Foil. Vistaprint's foil accent is digital: its FAQ says "the metallic foil is flat" and takes the colour of your design. Its raised foil is templates only ("we're only able to offer pre-designed templates"). MOO offers gold or silver on its 18pt Super card, under 50% coverage, and doesn't say how it's applied.

Hot foil stamping is a different animal: a heated metal die presses a metal film onto the sheet. On soft cotton it leaves a slight bite, so the foil catches light at the edges of every stroke. We stamp about 40 foils with a die, on cotton up to 48pt.

Letterpress. MOO's Letterpress card is one of 12 preset debossed designs; "you can't change the debossed Letterpress design itself," and your name and logo are digitally printed. Vistaprint doesn't sell letterpress business cards. We cast your artwork into a plate and press it into cotton.

Fine detail survives foil: our foil and letterpress hold positive lines to 0.1 mm; we design to 0.15 mm for the crispest strike. A gradient becomes one solid foil colour.

Does anyone actually check my file?

Vistaprint, replying on its own product page: "our system is fully automated and so there is little to no human interaction with an order." MOO doesn't offer printed proofs.

That's fine for a phone number on white card stock. It's how you end up with type too small to read, or a dark logo that prints black.

Every file we print is checked by a person before the proof goes out, and the proof is free. If something won't print the way it looks on screen (a hairline in foil, white ink on cotton, a QR code in gold), we fix it and tell you in one line why.

    how proofing works

MOO vs Vistaprint: which is faster?

MOO is faster for plain cards: Original matte ordered before 2pm ET is eligible for next-day. Its foil takes about 6 business days and its letterpress 9.

Vistaprint's economy shipping on 1 October showed an estimated delivery of 16 October, with paid options down to about 4 business days.

We don't do rush production, and we'll say so before you pay:

    • Standard ships in 3–4 business days after proof approval, then UPS Ground (1–3 days in the US); flat hot foil and plastic take 7.
    • Custom work is about 3 weeks after you approve the proof, with free shipping within the continental US.

These are estimates, not promises, and I'd rather you plan with the real number. If your date is tight, tell us first and we'll say honestly whether it works.

What MOO printing reviews and Vistaprint reviews say

We read the 60 most recent 1–2 star Trustpilot reviews for each, on 1 October 2026. Small samples, so treat these as patterns, not verdicts.

    • MOO is rated 4.5 from 18,793 Trustpilot reviews. About 27 of the 60 recent low reviews were about missed delivery dates, often after paying for express. About 15 were about trim and centring; MOO tells customers to allow about 2 mm of movement. Customers praise its paper, colour and easy ordering.
    • Vistaprint USA is rated 4.5 from 7,495 Trustpilot reviews, with a much higher share of 1–2 stars (15.6% against MOO's 3.4%). About 21 of the 60 were about missed dates. Several were about store credit offered instead of a reprint. Only about 10 of the 60 were about business cards at all. Customers praise the price and the range.

The pattern across both is the same: deadlines, and what happens when something goes wrong. That's why we quote real timelines and keep our reprint promise to one line: if you're not happy, we reprint.

Looking for a Vistaprint or MOO alternative?

    Depends what you're escaping.

    • Price, with a little more paper: look at Jukebox or UPrinting before you look at us.
    • Speed: stay with MOO's next-day line.
    • A card that's made, not printed (real foil, your logo in letterpress, cotton thick enough to stand up, a painted edge in your Pantone): that's what we do.

    Vistaprint vs UPrinting

UPrinting is closer to Vistaprint than to us. Its business cards come in 14pt to 17pt paper plus plastic and metal, with spot UV, foil and soft touch, "as low as 0,07 US$ per card" at 500, "as fast as one business day", and a free file check. If Vistaprint's 14pt feels thin but you still want a budget card, UPrinting's 16pt is the sideways step. (UPrinting business cards page, checked 1 Oct 2026.)

What we make that the big printers can't

    See all case studies →

Curious what your card looks like pressed?

Upload your logo and see a concept on real stocks and finishes in a few minutes. It's a rendering, a direction, not a proof. A person rebuilds and proofs the file before anything is printed.

    Our honest take

If you need 500 cards by Thursday and the card just has to exist, use Vistaprint. If you want nicer paper and a slick editor, and gold or silver is enough, MOO is good at what it does.

We built Print Peppermint for the other card: the one someone turns over in their hand before they read it. Real foil, your own mark pressed into cotton, an edge in your exact colour, and a person who tells you what will and won't print before you pay.

The more digital everything gets, the more a well-made object stands out in a hand. That's the bet.

    Common questions

    Is MOO better than Vistaprint?

For paper, yes. MOO's standard card is 16pt with both sides included, and its Luxe card is 32pt. Vistaprint's standard is 14pt and prices the front side only. For price and speed on plain cards, Vistaprint usually wins. Neither stamps foil with a die or presses your own artwork in letterpress (checked 1 October 2026).

Which is cheaper, MOO or Vistaprint?

Vistaprint, by a wide margin. On 1 October 2026, 250 Vistaprint standard cards were 19,99 US$ (front only), and MOO's Original card was 45 US$ for 100 and 78 US$ for 200, with no 250 pack. Promo codes from both can lower these list prices.

What do MOO printing reviews say?

MOO holds 4.5 from about 18,800 Trustpilot reviews. In the 60 most recent 1–2 star reviews we read on 1 October 2026, the most common complaint was missed delivery dates, including paid express. The next was trim and centring drift. Customers praise its paper quality, colour and ordering experience.

Do MOO or Vistaprint do real foil stamping?

Vistaprint sells digital foil ("the metallic foil is flat") and raised foil on templates only. MOO sells gold or silver foil on its 18pt Super card, under 50% coverage, and doesn't say on the page how it's applied. Hot foil stamping uses a heated metal die; we stamp about 40 foils that way.

What fine detail can Print Peppermint foil and letterpress hold?

Our positive-line floor is 0.1 mm (0.28 pt), with a 0.15 mm (0.43 pt, 0.006 in) design target. Internal gaps target 0.25 mm (0.71 pt), floor 0.15 mm. Raised foil and UV target 0.3 mm, floor 0.17 mm. We preserve the supplied mark; these are our specifications, not another printer’s limits.

Does MOO do real letterpress business cards?

MOO's Letterpress cards use one of 12 preset debossed designs, and your own name and logo are digitally printed. You can't press your own artwork. Vistaprint doesn't sell letterpress business cards. We cast your artwork into a plate and press it into 48pt cotton (32pt also available), from 340 US$ for 250.

Vistaprint vs UPrinting: which is better?

They're similar models: online ordering, templates or upload, fast turnaround. UPrinting offers 14pt to 17pt stocks plus plastic and metal, a free file check, and turnaround "as fast as one business day". If Vistaprint's 14pt feels thin, UPrinting's 16pt is a reasonable step up at a budget price.

What's a good Vistaprint alternative for premium business cards?

If you want premium but still fast and cheap, MOO or Jukebox. If you want a card that's made rather than printed (hot foil with a die, your logo in letterpress, 32–48pt cotton, a Pantone-matched painted edge), a specialty studio like Print Peppermint. Our Custom cards start at 185 US$ for 250 (32pt silk).

Print Peppermint reviews: is it legit?

Yes. We're a specialty print studio founded by Austin Terrill, shipping to 30+ countries. You can see real client work with full specs in our case studies, hold our papers first with the 8 US$ sample pack, and book a call with Austin before you order. And if you're not happy, we reprint.

How long does Print Peppermint take compared with MOO and Vistaprint?

Standard cards ship in 3–4 business days after proof approval, then UPS Ground (1–3 days in the US). Custom cards with foil, letterpress or thick cotton take about 3 weeks after proof approval, with free shipping within the continental US. These are estimates. MOO is faster for plain cards; we don't offer rush production.

Do MOO or Vistaprint still sell NFC business cards?

No. As of 1 October 2026, MOO's "Business Cards+" page returns a 404 and Vistaprint's NFC page redirects to its general business-card category. We make NFC cards in plastic, metal and wood with no subscription, from 149 US$ for 25.

What happens if my order arrives wrong?

With us: if you're not happy, we reprint (how reprints work). MOO's FAQ says it will reprint for free if you're not happy. Several recent Vistaprint and MOO reviews report credits or discounts offered instead of reprints.
