Custom save-the-dates FAQ
When should we send save-the-dates?
Typically 6–8 months before the wedding, and 8–12 months for a destination event. We can turn artwork around quickly if you're closer to the date — tell us your timing in the quote and we'll match it.
Can save-the-dates match our invitations?
Yes — that's the point. We design the save-the-date as the opening note of your invitation suite, carrying the same paper, foil and typography across every piece so the whole set feels like one.
Do you offer magnet save-the-dates?
Yes — printed magnets on our premium stocks, with the same foil and finish options as our flat cards. The keepsake that lives on the fridge for months and quietly reminds guests to book flights and hotels.
What finishes are available?
Foil stamping in dozens of shades (including holographic and colour-shift), blind letterpress, painted edges, duplex stocks and matching lined envelopes. A specialist recommends the pairing that best fits your suite.
Should we order extra save-the-dates?
Yes. Guest lists grow, addresses get mistyped, and a reprint of a short run costs more per piece than the extras would have. Standard practice is to add a comfortable cushion above your list count and keep a few pristine copies for your photographer and your own records. Tell us your list size in the quote.
Can one card have both foil and letterpress?
Yes, and it's a common pairing. Letterpress carries the type in a deep deboss; foil carries a single element — names, a date, a monogram — in metal that catches light against the matte cotton. Each treatment is a separate pass on press, so the design needs to plan for registration between them.
Which size should we choose — A6, A7 or square?
A7 is the standard invitation footprint and reads as formal. A6 is smaller and lighter, and works well when the save-the-date is deliberately quieter than the invitation to come. Square is the most striking and the most particular about envelopes and mailing, so confirm that before you build the artwork around it.
Do the envelopes come lined or printed?
We offer matching envelopes lined, in color, or foil-addressed. A liner in the same foil or paper as the card turns the opening into part of the design. Foil addressing on the outer envelope is the strongest first impression you can make before anyone sees the card itself.
How exact is the color match between the save-the-date and the invitation?
Foil is a fixed material, so the same foil is the same foil months later. Ink on uncoated cotton is where drift happens — the fiber absorbs pigment and dries softer than a coated proof suggests. We record the exact stock and ink specs from your first run and print the suite against them.
We rebuild supplied artwork for the press.
Our design team redraws your artwork as clean, layered, press-ready files so every plate, die and colour can be produced properly.

Place Cards

View place cards →The save-the-date is the first thing anyone touches from your wedding, and it arrives months before the invitation. We print it on heavyweight cotton with foil, letterpress or painted edges — flat, folded or mounted on a magnet — and we build it as the opening note of the suite, so the paper, foil shade and typography carry straight through to the piece that follows.
Foil is metal leaf, not ink — choose the shade against your paper
Foil stamping runs a heated metal die into the sheet under pressure. The leaf releases where the die touches and nowhere else, so the edges stay crisp and the surface reads as actual metal, not a printed approximation of one. Mirror silver, gold and copper each throw different light against a warm cotton versus a cool white.
Holographic and colour-shift foils change with viewing angle. They look one way flat on a desk and another way in a guest's hand, and they never photograph the way they look in person. Tell us the shade you're imagining and we'll recommend the pairing that holds up on your stock.
Whatever you pick now, the invitation has to match it in six months
Letterpress works by pressing an inked plate into cotton until the fibers compress. That bite is the whole point — it's a texture you read with your thumb. Painted edges need thickness to hold the color, which usually means a duplexed sheet: two plies bonded into one card.
The landmine is timing. Your save-the-date prints months before your invitations, and if the stock, foil shade and typeface aren't locked when the first piece runs, the second one drifts. We record every spec from the first job so the suite reads as one set, not two orders.
A magnet moves through the mail differently than a card
A magnet-mounted save-the-date is a printed face bonded to a magnetic backing. It's thicker and it won't flex, which is exactly why it survives the trip to the fridge and stays there for months — quietly reminding people to book flights while the invitation is still being designed.
That rigidity changes the envelope. A magnet needs an envelope with enough room and enough body to protect the corners, and it does not behave like a flat A7 card in a sorting machine. Ask us about mailing before you commit to a size, not after the artwork is approved.
