A soft touch business card is printed in full colour on both sides, then covered with a thin matte laminate that has a slight drag under your thumb and no glare. Ours are 19pt, start at 113 $US for 100 or 121 $US for 250, and ship in 3–4 business days after a person-checked proof is approved.

The card on this page. The touch and the thickness do the work, with no extra process. Start here; add a raised finish only if your design has one element worth lifting.

Run a thumb across a soft-touch card and it doesn't glide the way gloss does. There's a faint drag, a little like the skin of a peach. That's why people call it velvet or suede, though there's no fabric in it: it's a thin matte film over the print.
The film swallows light. Black looks blacker than on matte, navy goes inky, and there's no glare under office lights. At 19pt the card is about two-thirds the thickness of a credit card, noticeably stiffer than a 16pt card.
It's the finish that makes people pause, flip the card over, and run their thumb across it again.

It won't take an emboss, deboss or letterpress.
The laminate is a stiff film; press a die into it and it creases or springs back instead of holding a clean impression. So we don't sell embossed soft touch. What works on this card: raised spot UV or raised foil, built up on top of the film, so your logo still stands proud. If you want the logo pressed into the paper, that's an embossed business card on cotton.
A dark design shows a white edge.
The card is white stock printed in colour, so if your design is black right to the edge, a hairline of white shows at the cut. We point it out on your proof. If a solid dark edge matters, the true black (dyed-through) cards in our black business cards range, or painted edge business cards, are made for it.
It isn't fingerprint-proof, and it won't take a pen.
Soft touch hides glare, not handling: large dark areas can show marks from fingers over time. And ink won't sit on the film, so for appointment cards people write on, choose uncoated business cards.
We'd rather tell you before you order than after.

Gold, silver or holographic foil built up on the soft-touch surface, one foil colour per design, front or both sides. Raised lines and gaps target 0.3 mm, with a 0.17 mm floor; only detail below that floor needs a local adjustment. No rounded corners on this build.

Clear gloss built up on one element: a logo, a name, a pattern. Gloss against velvet is the strongest contrast this card can do. Keep it to under about a third of the card so cards don't stick together in the box. No rounded corners.
Soft touch is where printed black looks its best. Our Standard black cards print black edge to edge on this same 19pt card, then add raised spot UV (black on black, the mark appears when the light catches it) or raised gold, silver or holographic foil.
Square 2.5 x 2.5 in and mini 3.5 x 1.5 in (1 x 3 in on request) at the same price as standard. Rounded corners are a 1/8 in radius die cut.
Want the same touch on a card that feels like a bank card? As a Custom build we make 32pt soft touch with pressed foil and painted edges. About 3 weeks after proof.
Upload your logo and the Studio shows it on a soft-touch card in a couple of minutes, with raised foil or gloss if you want to try them. It's a rendering, so read it as direction: colours and small type are set by a person at proof. It's the fastest way to know whether your mark suits a dark velvet card.

Matte wins on price, silk on photos, 32pt on sheer presence. Soft touch is the best balance of touch, look and speed in the Standard line.

Talk to our teamIt's a thin matte laminate film bonded over the printed card. It has no glare, makes dark colours look deeper, and has a slight drag under your thumb that smooth coatings don't. Ours goes on both sides of a 19pt card.
Yes, they're different names for the same kind of finish: a velvet or suede-feel matte laminate, which is why you'll also see it called velvet lamination. There's no fabric in it; the "velvet" is the feel, not a texture you can see. Our velvet laminated cards are listed as soft touch.
If your design is dark, or you want people to notice the card in their hand, yes: it's the cheapest way to change how a card feels without adding a process. If your card is mostly type on white and budget leads, matte is glare-free too at about half the price (58 $US vs 121 $US for 250).

No. The laminate is a stiff film and won't hold a clean impression, so we don't sell embossed or letterpressed soft touch. On this card you can raise your logo with raised foil or raised spot UV instead. For a pressed-in logo, choose an embossed card on cotton.
Yes. Raised foil (gold, silver or holographic, one colour per design) and raised spot UV both go on top of the soft-touch film on our Standard line: raised spot UV from 105 $US and raised foil from 105 $US for 100. Raised lines and gaps target 0.3 mm, with a 0.17 mm floor, and these builds come with square corners.
They hide glare, not every mark. Large dark areas can show handling marks over time. Lighter designs show almost nothing. The sample pack is the honest way to judge it.
Soft touch is the finish, not the paper. Our soft-touch cards are 19pt card stock (about 0.5 mm) laminated on both sides. As a Custom build we also make 32pt soft-touch cards.
Not reliably; pen ink sits on the film and smudges. For cards people write on, choose uncoated.
Matte for type-led cards, gloss for photos. Soft touch is a third answer: matte-looking, thicker and with a feel people notice. All the finishes are compared on our classic business cards page.
Yes. The sample pack is 8 $US with free shipping within the continental US, and you get 10 $US back on your first order. You can also upload your logo to the Studio and see it on soft touch in minutes (a rendering, not a proof).
