Custom stickers & seals FAQ
What's the minimum size for foil detail on a sticker?
Fine detail survives foil: lines hold to 0.1 mm, and we design to 0.15 mm with internal gaps around 0.25 mm. Foil type is 7pt minimum, 8pt recommended, 10pt reversed. A specialist checks your artwork before press.
Which stocks take kiss-cut well?
Premium adhesive papers, soft-touch and matte vinyl all kiss-cut cleanly. For foil + kiss-cut combinations we recommend a heavier stock so the foil registers crisply on the backing.
How are foil seals different from real wax seals?
Foil seals are stamped metallic foil on a peel-and-stick backing — the look of a wax seal without the heat, mess or weight. Perfect for invitations, brand boxes and gift packaging at any scale.
Can you match my brand foil colour?
Yes — we stock dozens of foil shades including custom Pantone-matched options, and a specialist confirms the exact foil on a proof before press.
Can you match my brand's foil to a specific Pantone?
Yes. We stock dozens of foil shades and can work toward custom Pantone-matched options. Foil reads differently than ink — a metallic surface bounces light rather than absorbing it, so it will never be a literal match to a flat swatch. A specialist confirms the exact foil on a proof before press so there's no surprise.
Will these peel off cleanly, or leave residue behind?
It depends on the adhesive we specify. Permanent adhesives are designed to bond and will fight you on removal, sometimes tearing the face stock. Removable adhesives release cleanly from smooth, coated surfaces but grip less on kraft and uncoated board. Tell us the surface and how long it needs to stay put, and a specialist recommends the adhesive.
How is a foil seal different from a real wax seal?
A foil seal is stamped metallic foil on a peel-and-stick backing — the look of a wax seal without the heat, the mess or the weight. Nothing melts, nothing cracks in transit, and postage doesn't jump. Good for invitations, brand boxes and gift packaging at any scale, including quantities where hand-pouring wax isn't realistic.
Do I need a white layer under artwork on clear vinyl?
Often, yes. Without an opaque white layer beneath your colours, everything printed on clear film goes translucent and picks up the surface underneath. A white underprint restores the colour you designed while leaving the rest of the sticker invisible. Send us the box or envelope colour it's going onto and we'll advise on the build.
How should I set up the cut line in my file?
Draw the cut shape as a separate vector path on its own layer — never as a rasterised outline or a stroke you've expanded by eye. Keep artwork bleeding past that path so no white liner shows if the blade drifts. Send vector art with fonts outlined. A specialist checks the path and flags anything too tight to cut.
Need label artwork drawn to the die?
Our design team redraws your artwork as clean, layered, press-ready files so every plate, die and colour can be produced properly.

Stickers and seals are the last thing you touch before a box ships, and the first thing someone touches when it lands. We make them in metallic foil, clear vinyl, colour-shift holographic, and kiss-cut on premium stock — plus stamped foil seals as the modern alternative to wax. Same presses, same proofing, same specialist review as everything else we make. The difference between a sticker that looks like a sticker and one that reads as part of the packaging is usually a decision made in the file, not at press. Below is what to decide before you send artwork.
Foil is stamped, not printed — which changes how you design it
Foil arrives as a thin metallic film. A heated die presses it into the stock, and the foil releases only where the die makes contact. There is no ink, no dot pattern, no gradient. Every foil area is either fully covered or bare stock.
That physics has consequences. Gradients, drop shadows, and halftone screens can't be stamped — they have to be redrawn as solid shapes. Fine detail survives foil: lines hold to 0.1 mm (0.28 pt); we design to 0.15 mm, with gaps around 0.25 mm (0.15 mm floor). Keep foil type at 7pt minimum, 8pt recommended, 10pt reversed. A specialist reviews your art and flags anything that won't hold before the die is cut.
Clear vinyl shows whatever it's stuck to
This is the landmine nobody mentions until the stickers arrive. Transparent vinyl has no opacity of its own, so printed colour sits on top of whatever surface is underneath. Stick a navy logo on a kraft box and the navy goes muddy. Put it on black and it can vanish.
Two ways out. Design for translucency on purpose — a single foil or dark line mark on clear film looks like it was printed directly on the box, which is the whole appeal. Or build the artwork so it doesn't depend on a light background. Colour-shift holographic film behaves the same way: it moves your printed colours as the viewing angle changes, so keep art bold and simple and let the film do the work.
Kiss-cut leaves the backing whole, and that's the point
A kiss-cut blade cuts through the face stock and adhesive but stops at the liner. The backing sheet stays intact, so stickers peel cleanly with a fingernail and don't shed off a sheet in transit. Premium adhesive papers, soft-touch and matte vinyl all kiss-cut cleanly.
Two details worth setting now. Give shapes a slight corner radius — sharp points are the first thing to lift and curl once someone handles the sheet. And if you're combining foil with kiss-cut, we recommend a heavier stock so the foil registers crisply against the cut edge. Thin stock lets the die push the sheet around and the foil drifts off the shape.
