    Plastic Types & Production

Frosted: 30pt translucent matte PVC. See-through with a soft diffused surface. Colors print with strong saturation. Hides fingerprints and scratches. Accepts foil, spot UV, white ink, and double-sided printing.

Clear: 30pt fully transparent glossy PVC. No frosting. Colors appear lighter and more translucent. Best with dark, high-contrast designs. Accepts foil, white ink, and double-sided printing.

White: 30pt solid opaque white PVC. Full-color both sides. Accepts foil and spot UV.

Thickness: approximately 0.76mm — noticeably thicker and more rigid than 20pt plastic. Closer to the feel of a credit card.

    About White Ink

White ink is an opaque white layer printed on clear or frosted plastic. It can be used behind your color print to create opaque areas with full color saturation, or on its own as a standalone design element — white text, logos, or patterns on transparent stock.

Without white ink, colors printed on transparent stock are translucent — they take on the appearance of stained glass rather than solid ink. White ink gives the color an opaque base to sit on, producing full, saturated color in specific areas while leaving other parts of the card see-through.

Common uses: printing a full-color logo with solid colors on one area while keeping the rest of the card transparent. Creating a business card that is see-through everywhere except where your name and contact details are printed. Making a gradient from transparent to opaque.

White ink is specified in your file as a separate layer — our team can help you set this up if needed.

    About Custom Plastic Cards

Custom plastic cards are our most versatile plastic product. The thicker 30pt PVC feels substantial — closer to a credit card than a standard plastic business card. The added thickness also means the card holds its shape better and feels more premium in the hand.

Frosted plastic with foil stamping is a popular combination. The contrast between the matte translucent surface and the reflective foil creates a layered, dimensional look. Add white ink to specific areas and the card becomes a mix of see-through, solid white, and metallic — three visual layers on a single card.

Looking for custom die-cut shapes on plastic? Custom plastic dies require an injection mold, which is a larger investment than paper die-cutting. Contact us for a custom quote on die-cut plastic cards.

    Custom plastic questions

What is white ink on plastic business cards?

White ink is an opaque white layer printed on clear or frosted plastic. Use it behind colour print for opaque areas, or on its own as a standalone design element.

Can you foil stamp on plastic business cards?

Yes. Foil stamping on plastic creates an especially dramatic effect: metallic foil on matte frosted or glossy clear surfaces catches light differently than foil on paper.

What is the difference between 20pt and 30pt plastic?

20pt plastic is approximately 0.5mm, thin and flexible. 30pt plastic is approximately 0.76mm, noticeably thicker and more rigid, closer to the feel of a credit card.

Can you print on both sides of a clear plastic card?

Yes. Double-sided printing on clear and frosted plastic is available as an add-on on Custom Plastic.

Can you make custom-shaped plastic business cards?

Yes, but custom plastic dies require an injection mould, a larger investment than paper die-cutting. Ask us for a custom quote.
