Hang tags for a collection made of air

A design exploration: five hang tags we imagined for doublet’s Autumn/Winter 2026 collection, AIR. An air-filled pillow of frosted film with smoke printed inside; a die-cut charcoal factory with a vellum smoke layer; a matte red soft-touch balloon giraffe with a sculpted emboss; a bubble-wrap tag with raised clear domes; and a CO2 specimen label in two-colour letterpress with a vial of beads made from air. An unofficial homage: we haven't worked with doublet, and these are our own concept tags, not a doublet commission.

Five concept hang tags for the doublet AIR collection hanging in a fog-filled grey studio

Give a collection made of air hang tags that hold air, smoke and a sense of humour.

    A collection made of air

doublet is the Tokyo label of Masayuki Ino, the designer who won the LVMH Prize in 2018 and signs everything with two words: strangest comfort. His Autumn/Winter 2026 collection, shown in Paris in January, is called AIR. The runway was full of smoke. There was a T-shirt made from yarn spun out of CO2 captured from the air, a sweater with a smoking factory knitted into it, a gas-mask bag, scarves made of balloon animals and pieces that look like bubble wrap.

We loved it, so we did what we always do with work we love: we imagined the paper that would go with it. These are five hang tags we dreamed up as if Ino had walked into our studio with the collection under his arm. He didn’t. This is a design exploration and an homage, and we’re not affiliated with doublet. Everything below can really be made.

A frosted, air-filled pillow hang tag printed doublet AIR in white, with a wisp of smoke inside, hanging from a charcoal T-shirt
A die-cut charcoal factory hang tag with a translucent vellum smoke layer rising from two smokestacks, on a black ribbed sweater
A matte red embossed balloon-giraffe hang tag on a curly red ribbon, hanging from a black bomber jacket
A sky-blue hang tag covered in raised clear bubble domes, three of them popped, on a pink puffer bag
A long letterpress lab-label hang tag with a large orange CO2, a falling graph and a barcode, beside a tiny corked vial of pearl beads
A black clothes rail with five garments, each wearing one of the five concept hang tags, in drifting stage fog

Air Pillow: a tag you can squeeze

Wanted: The collection is called AIR, so the first tag had to literally hold some.

Constraint: Paper can’t hold air, and vellum won’t heat-seal. Real smoke wouldn’t stay inside a pouch either.

We chose: A small pillow of frosted, heat-sealable film (like a good garment bag), printed in opaque white and sealed with a puff of air inside. The wisp of smoke is printed on the inner face, so it floats when the pillow moves.

Smokestack: the factory sweater, as a tag

Wanted: A nod to the knit with a smoking factory on it, without just printing a picture of it.

Constraint: Thin card would curl under a second layer, and a printed cloud looks flat.

We chose: A die-cut factory in thick charcoal cotton with a blind-debossed brick pattern, windows stamped in matte silver foil and ash-grey painted edges. A separate die-cut layer of translucent vellum smoke is riveted to the chimney tops so it fans up off the tag.

    Balloon Giraffe: twisted, never inflated

Wanted: Something for the balloon-animal scarves, as funny as the runway.

Constraint: A shiny chrome balloon dog reads as somebody else’s artwork, and a real balloon would pop.

We chose: A flat die-cut giraffe in matte red soft-touch with a sculpted, multi-level emboss, so every segment looks plump and rubbery. It hangs from a curly gift ribbon like the end of a party balloon.

Bubble Wrap: pop one, we won’t tell

Wanted: A tag people play with at the rail.

Constraint: Raised clear varnish soaks into uncoated cotton and the domes go flat.

We chose: A grid of thick, raised clear domes on sky-blue stock, with a few corner domes left “popped” (printed flat). On cotton we lay a clear base first, or move to a smooth board, so the domes stand tall.

CO2 Specimen: the tag is the lab report

Wanted: Something that tells the real story of the collection: yarn made from CO2 taken out of the air, and beads made from captured greenhouse gas.

Constraint: A plain care label would bury the most interesting fact on the garment.

We chose: A long specimen label, letterpressed in black and fluorescent orange on thick cotton: a big CO2, a falling line, ruled fields and a barcode. A tiny corked vial of pearl-like beads hangs on the same cord.

    Where each idea came from

The air. AIR is built around materials that start as gas: a T-shirt knitted from yarn made with CO2 captured from the atmosphere, and pearl-like beads that microbes grow from methane and air. The Air Pillow and the CO2 Specimen tag come straight from that.

The smoke. The show opened in a room full of it, and one of the sweaters has a factory puffing away on the front. That became the Smokestack.

The balloons and the bubble wrap. Balloon-animal scarves and puffy, bubbly pieces walked the runway. We turned one into a giraffe and the other into a tag you can’t stop pressing.

The humour. doublet takes serious subjects (pollution, climate, waste) and makes them funny enough to wear. A hang tag is the first thing you touch, so we tried to make each one land the joke before you read a word.

    Como fizemos o filme

We shot it like a fashion week backstage: a grey seamless studio, a fog machine and nothing else. Each tag gets one slow, quiet shot, then the music drops on the factory.

The tags are concept renders and the scenes are made with AI. The techniques aren’t: heat-sealed film, die-cutting, blind deboss, foil, painted edges, soft-touch, multi-level emboss, raised clear varnish and two-colour letterpress are all things we make every week.

    Make your own

A hang tag is the first thing someone touches. If yours could do a little more, send us the collection and we’ll dream up the paper.

    Perguntas

What are some creative hang tag ideas for a clothing brand?
Make the tag tell the collection’s story: a die-cut shape, a second layer that moves, a texture people want to touch, or a tag that works like an object (a pouch, a label, a little vial). Pair one strong idea with one or two finishes, like foil, emboss or painted edges.
Can a hang tag be made of something other than paper?
Yes. We make tags from frosted or clear film, heat-sealed pouches, vellum layers and thick cotton board, and combine them with eyelets, ribbon or cord.
What is raised clear varnish on a hang tag?
A thick, clear coating printed in a pattern so it stands up from the surface and catches the light, like the bubbles on our Bubble Wrap tag. It sits best on smooth or coated stock; on uncoated cotton we lay a clear base first.
    Can you letterpress fluorescent ink?
Yes. Fluorescent Pantone inks letterpress beautifully on cotton, and pairing one with black makes small type and graphics really pop.
Is this an official doublet design?
No. It’s a design exploration and an homage to doublet’s Autumn/Winter 2026 AIR collection. We’re not affiliated with or endorsed by doublet, and the tags and scenes are AI renders.
Can I order hang tags like these?
Yes. Every technique here is real. Order a sample pack, start a quote or book a design consultation and we’ll build yours.
