About Raised Spot UV
Raised spot UV takes the spot gloss effect further by building up the clear coating into a physical layer above the paper surface. Each glossy element sits approximately 50 microns above the matte paper — enough to feel the edge with your fingertips as you run them across the card.
The effect is most dramatic on soft touch laminated stock, where the contrast between the smooth, hard raised gloss and the velvet-soft matte surface creates two completely different textures on one card. People notice this immediately — it's the card that gets turned over in someone's hands.
Raised spot UV is sometimes called 3D spot UV, embossed gloss, or raised spot gloss. The technique uses UV-cured polymer applied digitally, which allows precise placement and consistent height across every card in the run.
