What it's like to run
- Opacity on the white is one hit on smooth dark stock, two on heavily textured — which is where we switch to a premium domestic pigment.
- Matte blush is Chenhui 133-5 on the mill's own numbering. Tone on tone it reads as a texture change before it reads as a colour, so give it a mark with some mass — a hairline disappears.
- Clear gloss carries no pigment. It only reads against a matte ground, and it reads by angle rather than by colour, so it wants an area — not a hairline.

The house answer for white type on black. Letterpress and offset inks are translucent — white ink on Ebony reads grey and dirty. An opaque white pigment foil sits on top of the sheet and stays white, and because Ebony is dyed through the cut edge stays black instead of flashing a white core.

A dead-flat black with no sheen anywhere, so the white has nothing competing with it. White INK is not an option here — litho and letterpress inks are translucent and go grey on a saturated sheet — but an opaque white pigment foil sits on top and stays white. The stock is dyed through, so a die-cut aperture or a trimmed edge stays black instead of flashing a core.
