Business Card Trends Worth Watching in 2025
What's changing, what's staying, and why the physical card still matters in a digital-first world.

Texture is the new luxury
For years, heavy card stock and a glossy finish were enough to signal premium quality. In 2025, the conversation has shifted from weight to texture. Soft-touch lamination, cotton fiber stocks, and velvet-feel coatings are replacing high-gloss as the default luxury choice.
This tracks with broader design trends — matte packaging, tactile branding, the general move away from 'shiny equals expensive.' Our Raised Foil Soft Touch cards are a perfect example: the velvet matte surface makes the metallic foil pop without competing for attention.
NFC and smart cards go mainstream
NFC business cards have existed for a few years, but 2025 is the year they've gone from novelty to practical tool. With every modern smartphone supporting NFC natively — no app needed — the friction has disappeared.
We're seeing architects, real estate agents, and creative directors embed NFC chips in metal, plastic, and even wood cards. The chip links to a portfolio, booking page, or digital vCard. The physical card becomes a bridge between tangible and digital. Read more in our NFC guide.
Minimalism with one bold detail
The most effective cards we've printed this year share a pattern: clean, restrained layouts with a single standout element. A blind deboss on otherwise plain cotton stock. A single foil-stamped logo on matte black. One line of spot UV on an uncoated surface.
This approach works because it creates a moment of discovery — the recipient feels the texture or catches the light, and the card becomes memorable without being busy.
Sustainability as a design choice
Eco-conscious materials aren't just a checkbox anymore — they're a deliberate aesthetic. Uncoated recycled stocks, soy-based inks, and natural fiber papers are being chosen for their look and feel, not just their environmental credentials.
Cotton papers, in particular, have surged in popularity. They feel distinctly different from wood-pulp stock — softer, more textile-like — and they pair beautifully with letterpress and blind embossing.
Non-standard shapes and sizes
Square cards, rounded corners, circle cards — non-standard formats continue to grow as brands look for ways to stand out in a stack. The key is intentionality: a square card works for a photographer because it echoes an Instagram grid. A rounded-corner card works for a wellness brand because it feels approachable.

What this means for your next order
You don't need to chase every trend. The best business card is one that authentically represents your brand. But if you're due for a refresh, consider: would your card benefit from a texture upgrade? Would an NFC chip save you from handing out a card that leads nowhere?
If you're unsure where to start, our sample kit lets you feel the difference between finishes and paper stocks before committing. Or request a custom quote and we'll help you narrow it down.
