The save-the-date is the first thing anyone touches from your wedding, and it arrives months before the invitation. We print it on heavyweight cotton with foil, letterpress or painted edges — flat, folded or mounted on a magnet — and we build it as the opening note of the suite, so the paper, foil shade and typography carry straight through to the piece that follows.
Foil is metal leaf, not ink — choose the shade against your paper
Foil stamping runs a heated metal die into the sheet under pressure. The leaf releases where the die touches and nowhere else, so the edges stay crisp and the surface reads as actual metal, not a printed approximation of one. Mirror silver, gold and copper each throw different light against a warm cotton versus a cool white.
Holographic and colour-shift foils change with viewing angle. They look one way flat on a desk and another way in a guest's hand, and they never photograph the way they look in person. Tell us the shade you're imagining and we'll recommend the pairing that holds up on your stock.
Whatever you pick now, the invitation has to match it in six months
Letterpress works by pressing an inked plate into cotton until the fibers compress. That bite is the whole point — it's a texture you read with your thumb. Painted edges need thickness to hold the color, which usually means a duplexed sheet: two plies bonded into one card.
The landmine is timing. Your save-the-date prints months before your invitations, and if the stock, foil shade and typeface aren't locked when the first piece runs, the second one drifts. We record every spec from the first job so the suite reads as one set, not two orders.
A magnet moves through the mail differently than a card
A magnet-mounted save-the-date is a printed face bonded to a magnetic backing. It's thicker and it won't flex, which is exactly why it survives the trip to the fridge and stays there for months — quietly reminding people to book flights while the invitation is still being designed.
That rigidity changes the envelope. A magnet needs an envelope with enough room and enough body to protect the corners, and it does not behave like a flat A7 card in a sorting machine. Ask us about mailing before you commit to a size, not after the artwork is approved.
Common questions
Yes. Guest lists grow, addresses get mistyped, and a reprint of a short run costs more per piece than the extras would have. Standard practice is to add a comfortable cushion above your list count and keep a few pristine copies for your photographer and your own records. Tell us your list size in the quote.
