Neon painted edges: the loudest quiet card we make

Neon edge paint on an otherwise silent white 32pt cotton card is the specification that started painted edges as a category. The face of the card is disciplined — often a single blind-debossed mark, or one letterpress line of type — and the edge is a screaming stripe of fluorescent color running around the whole perimeter. The delay between reading the face and catching the edge is the entire delight.

Neons are their own animal. They're mixed from fluorescent pigments (not standard Pantone inks) and they read brightest under natural daylight and UV — the same reason highlighter markers look different indoors versus outside. Neon pink, orange, yellow, and green are the four we stock; other neons are possible but require a custom pigment mix and we'll be upfront about the surcharge.

Two things to know before spec'ing this: neons are less lightfast than standard Pantone edge paint, meaning direct sunlight over years will soften the intensity. This is a card handed at meetings and kept in wallets, so almost nobody notices — but if the card lives on a sunny desk display, expect the edge to relax over time. And neon edges pair best with restrained card faces; the whole idea depends on the contrast between the quiet front and the loud rim. Neon edge plus busy face reads chaotic.
