    The lobster, twice

Card for Maine Lobster Now in Saco, Maine: the lobster-claw NOW mark with the claws and tail in red-orange foil on navy, a white reverse with the same mark blind embossed large, and a red painted edge.

Business-cards for Maine Lobster Now with red-orange foil stamping, navy + white duplex, blind emboss and red painted edge.

    The idea

Maine Lobster Now sells Maine lobster caught fresh and delivered overnight, and has been selling lobster tails, rolls and meat for more than 30 years. It is based at 47 Spring Hill Road in Saco, Maine. The card shown is for its creative director.

    Two rules

    1. 01Foil for the claws. Red-orange foil for the claws and tail, with the word NOW left in navy.
    2. 02Emboss on the back. The same mark blind embossed large on the white reverse, with a red edge tying the two faces together.

    Why it works

The mark is on both sides, once in foil and once only in relief, and the red edge connects them.

    Start from these materials

Same paper, foil and finish, locked in — nothing of Maine Lobster Now's artwork comes with it.

    Questions

Can one side be foiled and the other embossed?
Yes. On a duplexed card each sheet can take its own process.
What does a painted edge add?
It frames both faces and shows in a stack.
Does blind emboss show on a white card?
Yes, as shadow and highlight. Raking light makes it clearest.
