What is NFC?

NFC stands for Near Field Communication — a short-range wireless technology that allows two devices to exchange data when they're within a few centimeters of each other. It's the same technology behind contactless payments (Apple Pay, Google Pay) and building access cards.

In a business card, a tiny NFC chip is embedded within the card material. When someone holds their smartphone near the card, the phone reads the chip and opens a URL — your digital business card, portfolio, LinkedIn profile, or any web address you choose.

How NFC business cards work

The NFC chip in your card is passive — it has no battery. It's powered by the electromagnetic field from the reader's smartphone when held close. This means the chip lasts essentially forever — there's nothing to charge, nothing to maintain, and no moving parts to fail.

1. You order your NFC card with your custom design.
2. We embed an NFC chip during production.
3. You program the chip with a URL (we provide a simple setup link).
4. When someone taps their phone to your card, the URL opens automatically.

What can you link to?

Your NFC chip can point to any URL. Popular choices include:

• A digital business card (vCard) that saves your contact info directly to their phone
• Your personal website or portfolio
• Your LinkedIn profile
• A Linktree or similar link aggregator
• A scheduling page (Calendly, etc.)
• A product catalog or menu

You can change the linked URL at any time without reprinting the card — the chip is reprogrammable.

Compatibility

Most modern smartphones support NFC natively — all iPhones from iPhone 7 onward, and virtually all Android phones from 2015 onward. No app is needed — the phone detects the NFC chip automatically and prompts the user to open the link.
