Custom foil stickers, stamped and embossed
From $195 for 250
About 3 weeks after proof approval, an estimate.

A foil sticker is a sticker with a metallic finish. There are two ways to make one: print on a sticker stock that is already metallic, or hot foil stamp it, which means a heated metal die presses a thin film of real foil onto the paper. We make custom foil stickers the second way, and we can emboss the foil in the same hit, so your mark stands up off the sticker and catches the light. They're kiss-cut on sheets in 1.5 in or 2 in rounds or cut to your own shape, from $195 for 250.

Hot foil, metallic stock or holographic: three different stickers
"Foil sticker" gets used for three products that look alike in a thumbnail and nothing alike in your hand. Knowing which one you're being sold is the whole decision.
| Hot foil stamped (what this page makes) | Metallic sticker stock | Holographic film | |
|---|---|---|---|
| How it's made | A heated metal die presses foil film onto bare paper | Ink printed onto a sticker material that is already metallic | Ink printed onto, or a sticker cut from, a rainbow film |
| What you see | Bright, sharp metal only where the die touched; paper everywhere else | Metallic under the whole sticker; colour printed over it tints the shine | Colours that shift as the sticker turns |
| What you feel | A slight bite into the paper; raised relief if embossed | Smooth and flat | Smooth and flat |
| Colours | One flat foil tone per die: no gradients, no photos | Full colour is possible | Full colour over the rainbow |
| Best for | Brand marks, monograms and seals that should read as stamped, not printed | Colourful designs that need some shine | Playful, high-energy marks |
Hot foil is the slower, more expensive way, and it isn't the right choice for every sticker. It's the one that looks like it belongs on a box you paid real money for, because the paper stays paper and only the mark turns to metal. If your design is a photo or a gradient, foil can't carry it, and a printed metallic or holographic sticker will serve you better.

Custom embossed stickers: why we raise the foil
A flat foil sticker looks handsome from across a room. Up close, the eye reads it as a sticker. Embossing is what changes that. We cut one combination die that carries the foil and the relief together, so the foil lands exactly on the raised shape in a single press, with no second pass to drift out of register. Light rolls over the shoulder of each letter, and that shadow is what makes a 1.5 in round read as a stamped object rather than a printed one.
Deboss is the inverse: the mark sinks into the sticker and the foil sits at the bottom of the recess. It's quieter, and it suits a textured stock.
Two limits worth knowing before you order:
- Relief needs room. An embossed shape reads only by its shadow, so embossed strokes need at least 0.5 mm, gaps 1 mm, and embossed type 10 pt in a medium or bold weight. A hairline monogram embosses to nothing. We'll emboss the bold parts and keep the fine detail flat.
- A heavy hand flattens it. Press the sticker down around its edge with your fingertips, not with a flat palm across the middle.

Stocks and foil colours: what reads, and what goes quiet
Foil always lands on bare stock, never on top of printed ink, so the sticker paper is half the design. These are the stocks we stamp:
| Stock | Foils that read strongest | Watch for |
|---|---|---|
| Kraft label paper | Gold, copper, matte black | Fibres in the kraft give gold a warmer, softer reflection than on white |
| Black label paper | Gold, silver, copper | Black foil on black reads as a sheen, not contrast |
| White uncoated label paper | Any, including matte black | The cleanest contrast; the plainest look |
| Textured cream label paper | Gold, copper, matte black | Texture breaks up large solid foil areas |

For gold foil stickers, kraft and black are the two strongest grounds: kraft warms the gold, black makes it the brightest thing on the sheet. Our standard foils are gold, copper, silver, matte black and holographic. The sample kit's hot foil swatch card shows the 40 foils we keep on the shelf.
Three things to know before you pick:
- Black foil on black paper is a sheen. You'll see it only when the sticker tips toward the light. It's a lovely quiet mark for a black box, and the wrong choice for anything that has to be read.
- Holographic wants a smooth surface. On textured paper the rainbow breaks up and looks softer than the sample. We'd put it on smooth white stock.
- Big solid foil shows the paper. A fully foiled circle on textured stock picks up the texture and can show tiny gaps. If you want a mirror-like solid, tell us and our press team checks it before we promise it.
Three ways to build it, and the one we'd pick
We'd price it with everything first, then scale back to the number that makes sense for your run.
- Standard round, one foil, embossed. A 1.5 in or 2 in round on kraft, black or uncoated paper, from $195 for 250. This is the one we'd pick for most brands. It closes a box, seals tissue and sits on a jar lid, and it's the fixed-price option.
- Custom shape. We cut a die to your mark's own outline: a crest, an oval, a wordmark. Quoted, because the die is made for you.
- Two foils, or foil plus one ink. A second foil sits beside the first, never stacked on it, and ink stays clear of the foil. Quoted, because each foil is its own die and press pass.
Our advice: the second foil rarely earns its cost on a sticker this size. One foil with a good emboss usually reads as more expensive than two foils fighting for 1.5 inches.
Shapes, sizes and the kiss-cut sheet
The 1.5 in round is the size the eye reads as a seal. The 2 in round gives a wordmark room to breathe. Every sticker arrives kiss-cut on a sheet: the blade cuts through the label and its adhesive and stops at the backing, so each one peels with a fingernail and none fall off in transit.
For a custom shape, give the outline soft corners. A sharp point is the first thing to lift once someone runs a thumb over it, and the cutting blade can't turn a razor-sharp inside corner anyway, so we round those slightly. Custom shapes larger than 5 × 7 in need their own die quote.
Artwork rules for custom foil stickers
Foil is binary: an area is fully foiled or it's bare paper. On a sticker this small, these rules decide whether your mark survives:
- Lines and gaps at least 0.6 mm. Thinner foil breaks up on press, and narrower gaps fill in.
- Foil type at 7 pt or larger (8 pt is safer, 10 pt when the type is knocked out of a foil shape). Anything smaller moves to ink or comes out.
- No gradients, shadows or photos. Each foil becomes one solid tone.
- Keep foil 3 mm inside the cut line, or run it past. A foil ring that stops 1 mm from the edge of a round looks off-centre once the cut shifts slightly.
- Matte black foil needs bigger type. Black foil closes up the insides of small letters sooner than metallic foil, so keep small text in a black-foil mark larger, or set it in ink.
- QR codes print in flat ink, never foil or emboss, so phones can read them. Ink means a foil-plus-ink build, which we quote.
- Vector artwork is best. If you only have a PNG or an AI image, our designers rebuild it as clean vector for the die.
You don't need to get this perfect yourself. A person checks every file before the die is made and tells you, in one line, anything we changed and why. For the long version, read our foil artwork guide, or let our label artwork service draw it to the die.
Where foil stickers do the most work
- Box seals. One foil sticker across the lid seam of a custom gift box or a stock mailer turns a plain box into yours.
- Tissue closures. The sticker that holds the tissue shut is the first thing your customer breaks. Tissue is thin, so when the box is opened the tissue tears and the sticker stays put. Pair it with our packaging inserts and tissue.
- Jar and candle lids. A 1.5 in round fits most lids.
- Hang tags and bags. Use the same foil on your hang tags, so the kit matches.
- Envelope backs. For wedding and event envelopes, our foil seals page covers suite-matched seals and how they hold up in the mail.

When a foil sticker is the wrong call
- Wet, cold or oily surfaces. Our foil stickers are paper. They aren't for a bottle that sits in an ice bucket, a jar that lives in the fridge, or anything that gets wiped down. Those need a film label, which we quote on our labels page.
- Full-colour artwork. A photo or a gradient can't be foiled. Our custom stickers page covers printed, clear and holographic options.
- A few dozen stickers for this week. Making a foil die and setting up the press is the same work for 50 stickers as for 250. Below our minimum, stock craft-store seals are honestly the better buy.

Foil sticker questions
What is a foil sticker?
A foil sticker is a sticker with a metallic finish. It's made either by printing on metallic sticker stock or by hot foil stamping, where a heated metal die presses a thin film of foil onto bare paper. Hot foil gives sharper, brighter metal, with paper showing everywhere else, and it can be embossed so the mark is raised. Our custom foil stickers are hot foil stamped.
What's the difference between foil and holographic stickers?
A foil sticker shows one metal tone, such as gold, copper or silver, only where the foil was stamped. A holographic sticker is made from, or printed on, a rainbow film, so the whole sticker shifts colour as it turns. We also stamp holographic foil as a single foil colour on a sticker. It looks best on smooth white stock, because texture breaks up the rainbow.
Where can I get custom gold foil stickers made?
Craft and office stores sell stock gold foil seals in standard shapes. They're fine for a handful of envelopes, but they can't carry your logo. For personalized gold foil stickers with your own mark, a specialist stamps them from a die cut to your artwork. We make them from 250, kiss-cut on sheets, with a free proof before anything is stamped.
What's the minimum order for custom foil stickers?
250 stickers. Every order needs its own foil die and press setup, and that cost is the same for 50 stickers as for 250, so below 250 the price per sticker stops making sense. The ladder steps up to 500 and 1,000, and larger runs are quoted.
How much do custom foil stickers cost?
A standard 1.5 in or 2 in round with one foil starts at $195 for 250, $265 for 500 and $385 for 1,000. Custom shapes, a second foil or foil plus ink are quoted, because each one adds a die or a press pass. Design help is $95 if you'd like our studio to set the mark for you.
How long do foil stickers take?
Plan on about 3 weeks of production after you approve the proof, then transit. That's an estimate, not a guarantee. If you're working to a launch or an event, tell us the date when you order and we'll say honestly whether it's realistic.
Can foil stickers be embossed?
Yes, and it's how we'd make most of them. Custom foil embossed stickers use a combination die that stamps the foil and raises the relief in one hit, so the foil sits exactly on the raised shape. Embossed strokes need at least 0.5 mm and embossed type at least 10 pt in a medium or bold weight, because a raised shape reads only by its shadow. Fine detail stays flat. We can also deboss, so the mark sinks and the foil sits in the recess.
Will foil stickers stick to tissue paper and kraft boxes?
Yes. On tissue, the adhesive grips the fibres, so the tissue tears before the sticker lets go, which is what you want from a seal. On kraft board and stock mailers they hold well. Very rough, waxed or plastic-coated surfaces are where any paper sticker struggles, so if your box has a coating, send us the box or a photo of its spec and we'll tell you before you order.
Are foil stickers waterproof?
No. Ours are made on paper, so they're not for ice buckets, fridges, bathrooms or anything that gets wiped down. Water softens the paper, and condensation can lift the edge. For wet or cold use you need a film label instead, which we quote on our labels page.
Can you match my brand's foil colour?
Close, not literal. Foil is metal film that reflects light, while a brand colour swatch is ink that absorbs it, so no foil is ever an exact match to a flat colour. We match your colour to the nearest of the foils we keep on the shelf and tell you how far it moved. The 40-foil swatch card in our sample kit lets you choose against your own paper in your own light.
What's the difference between your foil stickers and foil seals?
It's the same craft, aimed at different jobs. Our foil seals are matched to wedding and event suites and made for envelopes that go through the mail. Our foil stickers are for brands: box seams, tissue, jars, bags and hang tags. If your stickers are for invitations, start on our foil seals page.
What artwork do you need?
Vector artwork (AI, EPS, SVG or a vector PDF) is best. Keep foil lines and gaps at least 0.6 mm and foil type at least 7 pt, with no gradients. If you only have a PNG or an AI-generated image, our designers rebuild it as clean vector for the die, and we show you the result on the proof before anything is stamped.
Can I see a sample before I order?
Our sample kit is $8, and it comes with a $10 credit toward your first order. It holds business-card samples of our papers and finishes, plus a hot foil swatch card with 40 stamped foils, the same foils we use on stickers. It doesn't include a sticker today. The free proof on every order shows your exact mark, foil and stock before anything is stamped.
Is shipping included?
Shipping is free within the continental US. Anywhere else, it's calculated at checkout, so you see the cost before you pay.
