Black foil (gloss & matte)
Black in foil, gloss or flat. On a black sheet it gives tonal black-on-black; on a pale sheet it is the sharpest contrast available.
We run this finish across KURZ, Crown Roll Leaf, Great Western and CHENHUI. Which roll your job is stamped with depends on the stock, the smallest detail in the artwork and the run length — the exact product code is confirmed on your quote.
Best for
- Black-on-black tonal work
- Type-led minimal work
Watch out for
- Gloss black on an uncoated sheet can look patchy at large sizes — matte is safer.
Premium vs value, honestly
Very close across houses. Gloss black shows lay-down imperfections more than matte does, so large gloss solids favour the premium films.

The houses we stamp with
KURZ
Germany · Premium
Leonhard Kurz, Fürth. The reference point for hot stamping foil worldwide — the brand most often written into a spec sheet by name. You pay for release consistency and for the fine-detail performance that holds a 0.15pt hairline over a long run.
Colour codes confirmed on your quote — we don't publish catalogue numbers we haven't verified against the vendor's own sheet.
Crown Roll Leaf
United States · Premium
New Jersey converter, the domestic default for a lot of US trade shops. Strong on opaque pigment and diffraction, and easy to source in small quantities without a European lead time. We hold their own stamped colour cards, so the pigment programmes are shown from photographs of real foil rather than from a screen guess.

United States · Premium
US foil house with a deep metallic and pigment range. Where we go when a job needs a domestic replacement roll inside a week. We hold their own stamped sample cards for the pigment programme, so those colours are shown from photographs of real foil rather than from a screen guess.

China · Value
Our value line and the one we run most. On coated and uncoated paper at accent coverage it stands up to anything on this page for a fraction of the roll cost. It gives ground on difficult substrates, on very fine detail, and on batch-to-batch colour consistency.

Will your logo hold in foil?
Foil needs a minimum line weight of 0.5 pt and counters no smaller than 1.5 mm. Anything finer fills in or flakes off the sheet. Send the file and we will tell you before the die is cut.
