Matte vs glossy
Matte is flat, non-reflective, and easy to read under any lighting. Colors appear softer and more muted. Glossy is shiny, reflective, and makes colors appear more saturated and vivid. Glossy shows fingerprints more easily. Most professionals choose matte — it reads as more sophisticated. Glossy works better for photography, food, and any design where color vibrancy matters most.
Silk and soft touch
Silk laminate is the middle ground between matte and glossy — a smooth satin surface with a subtle sheen. It's more scuff-resistant than matte and less reflective than glossy. Soft touch laminate is a velvet-like finish that absorbs light and feels like suede. It's thicker (20pt vs 16pt) and more tactile. Both are laminated, which adds durability and a premium feel.
Uncoated and linen
Uncoated paper has no coating or lamination — it's raw paper with a natural, absorbent surface. Colors print slightly softer because ink soaks into the fibers. The surface is easy to write on with a pen, which makes it practical for cards where you handwrite notes. Linen is a textured stock with a woven crosshatch pattern pressed into the surface. It adds tactile interest and a traditional, stationery-like quality.
