Custom gift tags for the gifts your business sends
Thick cotton and real hot foil on the front. The back stays blank for a handwritten note.
From 100 tags · $249
About 3 weeks after proof approval, an estimate.

Our custom gift tags are made for the tag you tie to a client gift, a hamper or a wrapped box. They're 32pt cotton, stamped with real hot foil, drilled and strung with cotton string, and left blank on the back so someone can write the note by hand. The fixed-price Signature tag is 2 × 3.5 inches and starts at $249 for 100 gift tags, or $395 for 250. Round tags, letterpress, painted edges and ribbon are quoted through the Studio.
Gift tags take about 3 weeks of production after you approve the proof, plus transit. For December gifts, that means approving a proof by early November. The dates are below, and every one of them is an estimate, not a guarantee.

Order custom gift tags at a fixed price
Two tags, priced up front. Signature is one hot foil on the front of a 32pt cotton tag, with a blank back for writing on. Atelier is 48pt duplex cotton with hot foil and a deboss, heavy enough to sit beside a small, expensive gift. Pick the paper, the foil and the string. A person checks your artwork, and nothing is stamped until you approve a free proof.

Signature, Atelier or custom: which gift tags to order
We price a tag with everything first, then scale back to what the gift actually needs. These are the three builds most gift orders land on.
| Build | What you get | Price | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Signature (what we'd recommend first) | 2 × 3.5 in, 32pt cotton in six colours, one hot foil on the front, blank back, drilled and strung with cotton string. | From $249 for 100 | Client and team gifts, hampers, wine and wrapped boxes, where the tag carries your mark and a handwritten line. |
| Atelier | 2 × 3.5 in, 48pt duplex cotton (two sheets bonded into one), hot foil and a deboss, drilled and strung. Bonding two sheets keeps the deboss from showing through on the back. | From $675 for 250 | Small, expensive gifts (jewelry, fragrance, a watch box) where the tag has to hold its own next to the object. |
| Custom | A 2.5-inch round or another shape, letterpress, a painted edge, ribbon or waxed cord, printed To and From lines, names on each tag. | Quoted | Wedding favors, retail gift-wrap programmes and anything the fixed tags don't cover. |
Start with Signature at 250.
At 32pt the tag is already about as thick as a credit card, far heavier than the folded paper tags in a gift-wrap aisle. For most gifts that weight, plus one foil and a handwritten name, does the whole job. Move up to Atelier when the gift itself is small and expensive. Go custom when the shape, the ribbon or the names matter as much as the mark.

Holiday gift tags: when to order for December
Count back from the day the gifts get packed, not the day they're opened. If your team or a gifting company packs the boxes in early December, the tags have to be on the packing table before that.
Pressed tags take time: about 3 weeks of production after you approve the proof, plus shipping. For tags in hand in the first week of December, approve your proof by Friday, October 30. Friday, November 6 is the last date we'd recommend for December.
| Approve your proof by | Tags typically arrive (estimate) | |
|---|---|---|
| Comfortable | Fri, Oct 30 | First week of December |
| Last call | Fri, Nov 6 | Around Dec 7–11; faster shipping may be needed |
| New Year or January gifts | Fri, Dec 4 | Early January |
All dates are estimates, not guarantees. They count from proof approval, not from your first message, so leave a few days for proof rounds. US delivery by ground. Production pauses over Thanksgiving and around December 25 are already counted.
Tell us the date the gifts get packed, and we'll give you a straight answer before you pay. Rush moves your order up the queue; it doesn't guarantee a delivery day.

Personalized gift tags: a pen, or a name in foil
Most gift tags carry the brand on the front and a person on the back. That's why the Signature tag's back is blank. Uncoated cotton takes a ballpoint, a gel pen or a pencil cleanly, and a handwritten name does more for a gift than any finish we sell. If you plan to use a fountain pen or a wet felt-tip, test it on a sample first, because soft cotton can feather a very wet line.
The landmine is foil. Pen ink doesn't grip a metal film, so it skips and smears. If you want "To" and "From" printed on the tag (that makes it a custom tag), we set those words in foil, at least 7 pt so the foil doesn't fill in, and leave the writing space as bare paper. Writing lines need to be at least 0.6 mm in foil, or they break up on press. Finer lines go in ink, on a light tag.
A different name on every tag is possible, but it changes the price. Foil is stamped from a metal die, and every different name needs its own die, so names in foil are priced per name. Names in ink avoid the die cost, if your order qualifies.
For a few dozen names, write them by hand.
It's faster, it costs nothing extra, and a name in someone's own hand is warmer than anything we can stamp. For a long list, ask for a quote, and we'll price names in foil against names in ink so you can choose.

Gift tags for client gifts, wedding favors and gift wrap
Client and team gifts. Corporate gift tags go on a holiday box, a bottle or a hamper, and the tag is often the only printed piece in the gift. One foil mark on the front, a handwritten line from whoever signs it on the back. Order the tags with matching foil seals and an insert card, and the whole gift reads as one piece of work.
Wedding favor tags. Your names or monogram and the date, one design for every favor. Small favors want a smaller tag, such as a 1.5 × 3 inch or a 2-inch round. Wedding favor tags are quoted with the rest of your wedding stationery rather than sold from the fixed-price ladder above, so ask for a quote and tell us the wedding date. Use the same foil as your wedding invitations and the favor table matches the suite. Guest names on each tag follow the per-name rule in section 5.
Retail gift-wrap programmes. A shop's gift-wrap counter goes through tags fast in December. A tag with your mark tied to every wrapped purchase is a small cost per gift at the 500 and 1,000 tiers. Pair it with a foil seal on the paper.
Bottles, jars and food gifts. A tag on an elastic loop slips over a bottle neck or a jar lid with no knot to tie on the packing line. Elastic loops are a custom option.
Product launches and PR boxes. A tag tied around a custom box is the cheapest way to put your foil on the outside of the package without stamping the box itself.

Finishes for gift tags, and the rule behind each
| Finish | How it works | The honest constraint |
|---|---|---|
| Hot foil | Heat, pressure and a metal die transfer a metal or pigment film onto the tag, with a slight bite into soft cotton. Gold, silver, rose gold, copper, black and white on the fixed-price tags. | Foil lines need at least 0.6 mm and foil type 7 pt or larger. A gradient becomes one solid tone. Black foil on black cotton is a quiet sheen, not contrast. Holographic foil wants a smooth stock; on cotton it looks softer than the swatch. |
| Letterpress | An inked plate pressed into the cotton, so you feel each line under your thumb. Custom tags only. | Letterpress ink is translucent, so colour shows on light papers; light-on-dark goes in foil. Large solid areas print with a soft, mottled texture. |
| Blind deboss | Your mark pressed into the tag with no ink or foil. It reads by shadow. | Very quiet on black cotton; if the mark has to be read, we add foil. On a single sheet, a deep deboss shows on the back, the side you write on, which is why Atelier is duplex. |
| Painted edges | Colour applied by hand to the edge of a clamped stack of tags. Custom tags only. | Any thickness can be painted; 48pt shows a bolder band. On a round tag or rounded corners, our press team confirms it before we promise it. Navy and black cotton tags are never edge-painted: dark tags get a foiled edge instead. |
| Die-cut shapes | A steel-rule die cuts the tag to a round, a scallop or your own outline. | Tight inside corners get a small radius, because a blade can't turn a razor-sharp corner. |
Two rules apply to every gift tag. White on a dark tag is white pigment foil, never white ink, because ink sinks into dark cotton and turns chalky. And foil stays at least 3 mm in from the edge and the hole, or runs right off the edge, because a sliver of foil at the trim looks like a mistake.
Gift tag sizes, shapes, string and ribbon
The fixed-price tags are 2 × 3.5 inches. Every other size below is a custom tag, quoted.
| Tag | Inches | Millimetres | Good for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard (fixed-price tags) | 2 × 3.5 | 51 × 89 | Boxes, bottles, hampers and wrapped gifts |
| Round | 2 · 2.5 diameter | 51 · 64 | Holiday gifts and wedding favors |
| Square | 2 × 2 · 2.5 × 2.5 | 51 × 51 · 64 × 64 | Candles, jars and small boxes |
| Small | 1.5 × 3 | 38 × 76 | Favors and jewelry boxes |
| Custom die-cut | Your outline | – | Shapes larger than 5 × 7 in get their own cutting-die quote |
Attachments
- Cotton string (fixed-price tags): natural, black or white. Knots cleanly on a box or a bottle neck. The fixed-price tags arrive drilled and strung.
- Ribbon: reads more festive than string. A drilled hole sized for string is too small for most ribbon, so ribbon tags get a wider hole or a die-cut slot, quoted as custom.
- Waxed cotton cord: stiffer than string and holds a crisp knot.
- Elastic loop: slips over a bottle neck or a jar lid.

Match your gift tags to the seal, the card and the box
A gift tag rarely travels alone. Foil seals close the tissue or the wrap in the same foil colours, from $195 for 250. Our packaging insert cards use the same 32pt cotton and foils, from $225 for 100. Order them together and we check them against one approved spec, so the gold on the seal is the gold on the tag.
One thing worth knowing up front: the same foil looks slightly brighter on smooth seal stock than on textured cotton, because the cotton fibres break up the reflection. We'll show you that on the proof rather than promise an identical look.

Gift and seasonal pieces we've made

Case study
Flânage champagne foil tag
A square tag on 50pt bright white cotton, drilled to hang from the product, with the mark in champagne foil. The heavy cotton gives it structure; the champagne keeps the mark quiet against the bright sheet. The same build works as a gift tag at the same weight.

Case study
Gelt & Glow holiday wrapping paper
Holiday wrap made to look like a stationery piece: a Pantone blue flood on uncoated text stock, a hand-drawn menorah pattern, and the flame linework in gold hot foil, registered to a 1.8-inch repeat. Pair a wrap like this with a matching tag and the gift is finished before the ribbon goes on.

Case study
The Ritz-Carlton Lunar New Year belly band
A 2-inch cotton band that holds a seasonal envelope set together in place of a box: a gold foil crest and wordmark, a blind-debossed plum-blossom border, and a round gold seal to close it.

4
Production.
About 3 weeks after proof approval. That's an estimate, not a guarantee.
5
Delivery.
Gift tag orders ship free within the continental US.
If the gifts have a packing date, tell us before you order and we'll say honestly whether it's realistic. Allow about five weeks from order to arrival, which leaves time for artwork and proof. That's an estimate, not a guarantee.
Feel the cotton and the foil before you order
Our sample kit is $8 and comes with a $10 credit toward your first order. It's built around business cards, not gift tags, but it holds samples of our papers and finishes plus the hot foil swatch card, with every foil we keep on the shelf. Hold a foil against the paper in your own light, and try your pen on the back of an uncoated sample before you order.
Gift tag questions, answered
How much do custom printed gift tags cost?
Our Signature gift tag, 2 × 3.5 inches on 32pt cotton with one hot foil and a blank back, is $249 for 100, $395 for 250, $525 for 500 and $795 for 1,000, drilled and strung with cotton string. The 48pt duplex Atelier tag with foil and a deboss is $675 for 250, $925 for 500 and $1,395 for 1,000. Round tags, ribbon, letterpress and painted edges are quoted.
What is the minimum order for custom gift tags?
100 tags for the Signature tag and 250 for the Atelier tag. If you need fewer, ask; smaller runs are possible on request, but the price per tag rises steeply, because the foil die and press setup cost the same at any quantity.
Can I write on the gift tags?
Yes. The back of the Signature tag is blank, uncoated cotton, which takes a ballpoint, a gel pen or a pencil cleanly. Test a fountain pen or a wet felt-tip on a sample first, because soft cotton can feather a very wet line. Don't plan to write on foil: pen ink skips and smears on the metal film, so any writing space stays bare paper.
When should I order holiday gift tags?
For tags in hand in the first week of December, approve your proof by about Friday, October 30. Friday, November 6 is the last proof date we'd recommend for December, with tags arriving around December 7–11. These are estimates, not guarantees. They count from proof approval, so leave a few days for proof rounds, and count back from the day the gifts get packed, not the day they're given.
Can each gift tag have a different name?
Yes, but it changes the price. Foil is stamped from a metal die, and every different name needs its own die, so names in foil are priced per name. Names printed in ink avoid that cost if your order qualifies. For a few dozen recipients, writing the names on the blank back is faster, cheaper and warmer.
Do the gift tags come with string or ribbon?
The fixed-price tags are drilled and strung with cotton string in natural, black or white. Ribbon, waxed cotton cord and elastic loops are custom options. Ribbon needs a wider hole or a die-cut slot than string, which is why ribbon tags are quoted.
What size should a gift tag be?
2 × 3.5 inches suits most boxes, bottles and hampers, and it's the size of our fixed-price tags. A 2-inch or 2.5-inch round reads as more festive and suits holiday gifts and wedding favors. Small favors and jewelry boxes take a 1.5 × 3 inch tag. Every size other than 2 × 3.5 is quoted as custom.
Can you put our logo on gift tags?
Yes. Your logo is stamped in hot foil on the front. Foil lines need to be at least 0.6 mm and foil type at least 7 pt at the printed size, so a very fine logo gets simplified slightly, and a gradient becomes one solid tone. A person checks your file and shows you any change on the proof before anything is stamped.
What's the difference between a gift tag and a hang tag?
The build is the same: thick cotton, hot foil, a drilled hole and string. The job is different. A gift tag goes on a gift and usually leaves the back blank for a note. A hang tag labels a product for sale and often carries care text, sizes or a QR code on the back. For product labelling, see our custom hang tags for retail.
Do you make wedding favor tags?
Yes. Wedding favor tags usually carry the couple's names or monogram and the date, one design for every favor, often in the same foil as the invitations. A smaller tag or a round suits most favors. Favor tags are quoted with the rest of your wedding stationery, not sold from the fixed-price ladder, so ask for a quote and tell us the date. Guest names on each tag are priced per name, as with any personalized foil.
Can gift tags match our boxes, seals and insert cards?
Yes. Our insert cards use the same 32pt cotton and foils, and our foil seals use the same foil colours. Order them together and we check them against one approved spec. The same foil looks slightly brighter on smooth seal stock than on textured cotton, and we'll show you that on the proof.
Can I see a sample before ordering gift tags?
Yes. Our sample kit is $8 with a $10 credit toward your first order. It's built around business cards, not gift tags, but it holds samples of our papers and finishes plus the hot foil swatch card with every foil we keep on the shelf, so you can judge the paper, the foil and your pen in your own light.
Do you ship gift tags outside the US?
Yes. European carriers have their own December cut-offs, so tell us early and we'll confirm the dates for your country before you pay. For anywhere else, tell us where the tags are going and we'll confirm shipping before you order.
How long do custom gift tags take?
About 3 weeks of production after you approve the proof, plus shipping. Allow about five weeks from order to tags in hand, which leaves time for artwork and proof rounds. These are estimates, not guarantees. If the gifts have a packing date, tell us before you order and we'll say honestly whether it's realistic. Rush moves an order up the queue, but it doesn't guarantee a delivery day.
What paper is best for gift tags?
For a tag someone writes on, a thick uncoated stock. Ours are 32pt cotton: soft, matte and about as thick as a credit card, so the tag holds its shape on a box and a pen moves cleanly across the back. Glossy coated card looks crisp, but ballpoint and gel ink sit on the coating and can smudge. If the tag also carries a deboss, we bond two sheets into 48pt duplex so the impression doesn't show on the side you write on.
Tell us what you're giving, and when it gets packed
Send us the gift, the number of tags and the packing date. We'll recommend the paper, the foil and the string as one spec, show you the proof, and keep the tag matched to the seal, the card and the box.
