    None of it survives a photo. You have to hold it.

    Hand someone a standard 14pt card and they read it. Hand them 32pt, about the thickness of a credit card, and they feel it first: no flex, a clean shoulder on the edge, cotton with a soft tooth. Letterpress leaves a bite you can trace with a thumbnail. Foil catches the light as the card tilts. Steel lands cool and heavy.

    Three things that usually go wrong, and our fix

    • A white edge on a black card.

      Our fix: Black printed on white stock shows a thin white line all round. Custom black cards use paper dyed black through, or a foiled edge. Standard black cards keep a white edge, and we say so before you order.

    • Foil laid over ink.

      Our fix: Foil won't bond to ink. We knock the ink out under the foil, leave a small gap, and tell you before you pay.

    • A gradient that goes flat.

      Our fix: Foil, letterpress and embossing press one solid shape. A designer rebuilds your mark for the process before the proof. See how we check a file

    How much do business cards cost?
    At Print Peppermint, classic matte cards start at $52 for 100 and $70 for 500. Specialty finishes start at $105 for 100 (raised foil on soft touch). Custom builds start at $310 for 250 with hot foil on 32pt cotton and $340 for 250 with letterpress on 48pt cotton. Every price includes a free proof and free shipping within the continental US.
    What is the best paper for business cards?
    For most cards, 32pt cotton or 20pt soft touch. Cotton is soft and toothy and takes letterpress, hot foil and embossing beautifully. Soft touch is a velvety laminate that prints sharp colour and ships faster, but it can't take an emboss or letterpress. If your design is photographic, choose a coated stock; if you want the card to feel crafted, choose cotton.
    What are specialty business cards?
    Specialty business cards use a process or material beyond flat four-colour print: hot or raised foil, letterpress, emboss and deboss, spot UV, painted edges, die cut shapes, extra-thick paper, cotton, steel, plastic or wood. They cost more than standard cards because each finish is a separate pass on press, and they take longer: Standard ships in 3–4 business days after proof approval, Custom builds take about 3 weeks.
    How much should I pay for 500 business cards?
    It depends on the build. At our prices, 500 classic matte cards are $70, 500 soft-touch cards $127, 500 with raised foil $190, 500 with hot foil on 32pt cotton $410, and 500 letterpress on cotton $535. Per card, the price drops as the quantity rises because setup is shared across the run.
    How long do business cards take?
    Standard cards ship in 3–4 business days after you approve your proof, then 1–3 days UPS Ground in the US. Custom builds (cotton, letterpress, hot foil, metal, wood, NFC) take about 3 weeks after approval. These are estimates; if you have a date, tell us before you order and we'll say honestly whether it's realistic.
    Do I get a proof before you print?
    Yes, on every order, free. Every business card proof is checked by a person (line weights, type size, bleed, whether a finish will work on your stock) before it's sent to you as a digital proof. You can revise it as many times as you need. Nothing is printed until you approve it.
    What's the difference between Standard and Custom business cards?
    Standard cards are ready to order: fixed stocks and finishes such as classic paper, soft touch, raised foil, spot UV, 32pt painted edges, plastic, kraft and recycled. They ship in 3–4 business days after you approve the proof. Custom cards are made to your spec: cotton, letterpress, hot foil, metal, wood and NFC, combined however you like, in almost any size, and take about 3 weeks. Both get a free proof checked by a person. Lead times are estimates, not guaranteed dates.
    What are the different types of business cards?
    By material: coated paper (matte, gloss, silk, soft touch), uncoated and cotton paper, black dyed-through paper, PVC plastic, stainless steel and solid wood. By finish: hot foil, raised foil, letterpress, emboss and deboss, spot UV, painted or foiled edges, and die cut shapes. By format: standard 3.5 × 2 in, square, mini (3.5 × 1.5 in; 1 × 3 in on request), folded and NFC (with a chip inside).
    What size is a business card?
    In the US a standard business card is 3.5 × 2 in (88.9 × 50.8 mm). We also print square cards and mini cards (3.5 × 1.5 in, or 1 × 3 in on request), and on the Custom line almost any size. See our business card sizes guide.
    What is a laminated business card?
    A laminated card has a thin film bonded over the printed paper. Silk laminate is smooth with a slight sheen; soft-touch laminate feels velvety. Lamination protects the colour from scuffs and is the base for raised foil and spot UV, but it can't be embossed or letterpressed. See our soft touch business cards and silk business cards.
    Can I combine finishes on one card?
    Yes, and that's most of what we do: foil on cotton with a painted edge, letterpress with a blind deboss, foil on both sides. Some pairs don't work (foil on top of ink, for one), and we'll tell you at proof. Two finishes usually say more than four.
    What is the minimum order?
    It depends on the card: 25 for square cards and NFC cards, 100 for classic and Standard specialty cards, and 250 for most Custom builds. Metal cards start at 5. Each product page shows its smallest quantity.
    How do you compare with MOO and Vistaprint?
    Vistaprint is cheaper and faster for plain cards, and MOO offers better paper and a polished design tool. We make the cards neither is built for: hot foil stamped with a die, your own artwork in letterpress, 32pt to 48pt cotton and painted edges, with a person checking every file.     Do you make perforated or tear-off business cards?
    Not as a standard product. A perforation weakens a thin card, and on 32pt cotton the tear is ragged, so we don't sell it off the shelf. If you need a tear-off stub for appointments or coupons, describe it in the Studio or talk to our team and we'll tell you honestly whether your stock can take it.
