New: Peppermint Studio — Try it

    Colorplan paper

50-plus shades, dyed all the way through the sheet. Cut it, deboss it, die-cut a hole in it — the edge is the same colour as the face. The reason almost every dark card we print is Colorplan.

Milled by GF Smith, United Kingdom. Hull-based merchant behind Colorplan — the most-specified dyed-through coloured paper in the world, and our default when an edge has to show colour.

    Embossed surfaces

These patterns are rolled into the sheet at the mill, before anything is printed — so any Colorplan shade can be ordered with any of them. Hover a tile to see the same sheet under raking light, where the relief reads. Coarse patterns break up hairline foil and fight letterpress; we will say so on your quote.

GF Smith Brocade embossing — A dense woven swirl, close to a fine damask cloth. Reads as texture at arm's length, as pattern in the hand.

    Brocade

    fine pattern

GF Smith Buckram embossing — The stiff bookbinding cloth weave — a tight, even crosshatch.

    Buckram

    medium pattern

GF Smith Colonnade embossing — Fine parallel fluting, like a column. Strongly linear.

    Colonnade

GF Smith Coltskin embossing — A fine hide grain — irregular, matte, animal rather than mechanical.

    Coltskin

GF Smith Cord embossing — Tight ribbed lines running one way, like corduroy.

    Cord

GF Smith Damask embossing — A formal figured pattern, the classic table-linen motif.

    Damask

GF Smith Dapple embossing — Soft irregular mottling, like light through leaves.

    Dapple

    fine pattern

GF Smith Fabric embossing — A plain cloth weave — the most neutral of the textile patterns.

    Fabric

    medium pattern

GF Smith Fine Linen (one sided) embossing — The familiar linen weave, rolled finer than standard Linen. Supplied one-sided: the reverse stays smooth, which is where fine type should go.

GF Smith Granular embossing — An even sand-fine grain across the whole sheet.

    Granular

GF Smith Gravure embossing — A very fine engraved-plate tooth, almost smooth to the eye.

GF Smith Laid embossing — Traditional laid lines — close parallel chain lines, the historic writing-paper surface.

GF Smith Leather embossing — A deep hide grain — the coarsest of the skin patterns.

    Leather

GF Smith Linen embossing — The standard linen weave, deeper and more visible than Fine Linen.

GF Smith Matrix embossing — A regular geometric grid — mechanical where the cloth patterns are organic.

GF Smith Morocco embossing — The classic bookbinding goatskin grain, pebbled and irregular.

GF Smith Pebble embossing — Rounded stone-like mottling, larger than Dapple.

GF Smith Plain embossing — No pattern — the reference smooth surface, shot so the range can be compared honestly.

    Plain

GF Smith Ridged embossing — Bold parallel ridges, the most architectural pattern in the range.

    Ridged

GF Smith Ripple embossing — Soft undulating waves, water rather than cloth.

GF Smith Sandgrain embossing — A dry, even sand tooth — slightly coarser than Granular.

GF Smith Silkweave embossing — A fine silk-cloth weave — tighter and glossier in the light than Fabric.

    Silkweave

GF Smith Smooth embossing — The mill's flat calendered surface. Not an absence of pattern so much as a deliberate one — the benchmark the rest of the range is judged against.

    Smooth

    fine pattern

GF Smith Stipple embossing — A dense field of fine dots, like a stippled drawing. Even, mechanical, quiet.

    Stipple

GF Smith Stucco embossing — A troweled plaster wall — irregular, matte, architectural.
